. . create work that gives voice to those who are typically ignored or unseen. My heart says make work that places women of color at the center with all of our complexity and intersectionality. My heart says don't be afraid to show this work to the world or be afraid to risk being vulnerable in the process. A very scary proposition for me -- a fairly cerebral and private person. When I work I see with my hands and feel with my eyes in order to create. My heart says trust my instincts when working like this because my instincts will not steer me wrong. My heart says create space in my work for others to experience peace — where they can safely look and trust that they will see themselves as they are and not as some gross caricature of themselves. My heART says create the tools necessary to be, to heal, to live.
