New Series, New Features

Sketches for a new quilt: Bird Woman. I think this quilt is going to be part of a series. The images in this and future quilts come from dreams I’ve had which led me to read more about birds in African/African American mythology. More on that after I’ve finished the quilt. Here’s a sneak peak. The center panel of the quilt is canvas. I made the drawing with an ebony pencil and then sealed it with clear gesso. I use acrylic paints (Golden and Brera) mixed with textile medium. I use the medium mainly because I want to layer the colors. I don’t really care too much about changing the hand of the fabric. I actually like the heaviness of the paint on unstretched textiles.
