I know it’s probably cliche to say this but it really does feel like I blinked and 2011 was over. I always like to review my creative plan from the previous year before I do the big reveal for what I hope and pray for for the New Year. Here is the original post from 3 January 2011. Below is a description of how things went jejejeje . . . .
2011 song: Salt by Liz Wright. Can’t tell you how many times I listened to this song during 2011. Lizz is such an incredible talent and an inspiration. The words in this song truly resonated with me. For me the song is always about the words, the words.
2011 word: Fearless Fearless (I wrote this word and then I crossed it out because I got afraid. Now what kind of sense does THAT make?) I think I did pretty good with my word of the year. I only got in my way a few times this year. Things always seem to work out (I write with a big cheesy grin on my face).
2011 color: ORANGE Hmmm. Orange never seemed to materialize for me. I still seem to be in love with GREEN –which has become my signature color.
Creative Guide Plan for 2011:
- become fluent in Spanish Bueno, yo no soy fluido todavía. Todavía está aprendiendo. Voy a alcanzar mi meta!
- clear up the last few unfinished projects from 2010 and beyond I did, I did. I released a lot of things I was no longer passionate about and finished the others.
- book manuscript (as I look at what I wrote last year it occurs to me that I may actually have TWO books) Still writing.
- printmaking projects (blockprinting and silkscreen on textiles) Ongoing. Started printing with procion dyes on fabric
- quilt sketches (a project I have been thinking about since May — how can I show my drawing lines in the way I piece my quilts?) Ongoing but I am closer!
- photo documentation of process (I do this but I want to become more detailed with it) I would give myself a C on this one. Still an attainable goal.
- encaustic (because I love it and I never got to it last year) and I didn’t get to it this year either, lol.
- take my doll work and figurative sculpture to the next level (yes, I have a vision for this — you will soon see) I am happy with my progress here. I developed new patterns, new techniques and used new materials in my work. I was also pushed by some very talented artists to reach for even more in my work. Grateful.
- continue experiment with tapestry crochet (this is new – – I blame my mother, Jerushia and Kottavei for the new yarn addiction I have, LOL) I did. I made two scarves and a baby blanket. I also made some storage baskets. I find that I crochet most when I am traveling or stuck thinking through a new project or idea in my dollmaking.
- Continue to build my creative community (both virtual and real) I did. I became less of a hermit (at least or the first part of the year : ).
- Dye a broader color palette I did and I have!!! I took a fabulous course with Carol Soderlund and I have been off to the races ever since.
- Continue to enter new and different art shows I did! And I got to meet some wonderful people in the process!!!
Next Post: Creative Plan for 2012!!! The good and the EXCITING.

Are your books art/craft related? Fiction? historical research? I can’t wait for them to enter into publication!
Thanks for the question, Karen. I didn’t mean to be so mysterious! My books are art-related. The first one is about my dollmaking process. The second one is a book of interviews of women fiber artists. I only have the outline for this book. It used to be a part of the first book but I realized that I was really researching two books. I hope to have the doll making book finished and off to perspective publishers by the summer
.
Love the thought processes. I did some of the same things but I loved your statement about crochet addition. Welcome to the club. Would love to see your crochet work. I collect dolls (mostly antique) I have one that may be from the early 1900′s. I have many packed away for protection. Do you have suggestions on how to preserve them?
Wonderful post.
Thanks for writing, Cheryl. Taking the time to review the past year and to think through the next year akways seems to help me to stay focused. Plus it reminds me to stop and celebrate the little wins
. I have some of my crochet work on Ravelry. I will make a note to post some of my crochet work on the blog in coming weeks. Big WOW on the early 20th century dolls. I tend to like to keep my dolls out on a shelf. You can also buy cases, glass enclosed stands and and display boxes. When I have needed to recommend a case for a collector I have usually suggested ebay. You can find great deals, often for bulk items, if you haunt the categories a bit. With a 50% coupon Michaels may also be an option. Maybe I can convince you to collect a few contemporary dolls
.
I love the idea of this. Can I use some part of it? I’d love to be able to look back next year and see how I did (in public).
Absolutely! Come back tomorrow to see the year what I have planned (with God’s grace and a lot of prayer) for next year. I also have a link to a new format I am using to track my progress
Thanks, Liz. That means a lot coming from you. I have to thank my designers for the clean look. They gave me exactly what I asked for and then some
.
I love this recap Deborah, brilliant! And I took a quick look around the site, and it’s looking beautiful. Clean, direct, fun. Yay for you!
So you want to be fluent in Spanish. That is great, as that is my language. From now on, I will comment in Spanish.
Puedes visitar mi blog en español y ver si te gusta. Un saludo cariñoso.
Gracias por sus comentarios, Ángela. He visitado tu blog y me gusta mucho. Especialmente los bloques de edredón (quilt?). Todavía estoy practicando mi español. Espero que lo entiendas. Gracias por sus amables palabras.
Gracias, Deborah. Por supuesto que entiendo tu español, es estupendo. Te decía que visitases mi otro blog, que está escrito solo en español, pero no habla de quilts (colchas), sino de otras cosas.
